Before You Travel How to Pack Getting to the Airport Upon Arrival at Airport At the Security Checkpoint At the Gate Onboard the Aircraft
Upon Arrival at Destination
Before You Travel
The airlines have worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure that airport facilities and
aircraft meet all security requirements.
We encourage you to book your airfare with confidence using our Web site. E-tickets remain available and offer optimal flexibility to our customers.
How to Pack
Airport security screening procedures will be significantly more stringent than before. Items in your suitcase that may have passed through before may not be accepted onboard aircraft today.
Complete a personal luggage inventory. Examine everything that you normally pack in your suitcase and evaluate whether an object could be scrutinized by airport security. (This includes items found in
manicure kits, etc.) Consider removing anything that could be perceived as threatening, or may raise suspicion at a security screening checkpoint. No knives of any size will be accepted.
Anticipate the
possibility that your bag will be opened for a security inspection. Pack efficiently, placing smaller items together in a pouch or bag. Avoid over-packing so that carry-on luggage and checked suitcases can be opened
and closed with ease. Make sure that each suitcase has a name tag securely affixed to it.
Bring a government-issued photo identification card (such as a driver's license) or passport to the airport.
Customers will not be allowed to check-in without proper identification.
Be sure to bring your e-ticket confirmation to the airport. A printed e-ticket confirmation or paper ticket will be required to go
through security. If you do not have one of these documents, you will be required to go to the ticket counter to obtain a copy.
If you are an e-ticket customer, here's how to print a receipt to take to the airport with you:
Access your account at your travel provider. Select your trip .
Find the "view/print receipt" area. Print this receipt and take it with you to the airport.
Getting to the Airport
Confirm your flight status before proceeding to the airport. You
can do this online at the travel provider site, or by calling the airline directly. If you learn that your flight has been canceled, call the travel provider immediately.
Expect restricted airport parking.
Arrive early. Customers are encouraged to arrive at the airport at least two hours before scheduled departure for domestic flights, and at least two-and-one-half hours
before international flights.
Upon Arrival at the Airport
Do not leave your vehicle or baggage unattended. Aircraft security will be completing thorough sweeps of airport properties. Expect to
see an increased presence of law enforcement personnel outside and inside the terminal building.
Proceed inside the terminal with your luggage. Curbside check-in and off-airport checked baggage options are
no longer available. (10/07/01 Our local airport and some carriers are now allowing curbside check-ins. Check with your local airport and carrier for current information).
E-ticket and paper-ticket customers with luggage to check may proceed to the ticket counter. Be sure to keep your baggage receipts for verification once you reach your destination.
At the Security Checkpoint
Access beyond security is now restricted to passengers and employees only. Have your ticket paperwork available, along with your photo ID. You will not be permitted past the
security check-in area without these documents.
As always, prepare to empty your pockets of coins, metal objects, etc.
Be prepared to demonstrate the operation of electronic equipment such as
laptops, cell phones, etc.
Please be patient. Do not make jokes about security. Comply with all security instructions.
Be prepared for increased passenger and baggage-security screening. Wand checks
and full-body hand searches may be expected.
At the Gate
Leave no bag unattended. Maintain your sense of awareness and keep your possessions with you at all times. Expect to see law-enforcement
personnel and dogs.
Keep your ticket paperwork and identification on hand and readily available.
Expect to see teams of individuals board the aircraft before general passenger boarding in order to
sweep the aircraft as an added security precaution. These individuals may board the aircraft from inside the terminal building, or may enter and exit via jet bridge stairs.
Pay special attention to
announcements. Board the aircraft as directed by gate agents. Do not wait until the last minute to board the aircraft.
Onboard the Aircraft
Expect to see random searches of service personnel, flight crews, and equipment.
Listen to and follow crew instructions at all times. Flight crews are trained to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Be patient if your departure is delayed. Passenger boarding and baggage loading are being carefully coordinated by the ground handling crew.
Upon Arrival at Your Destination
Proceed through the
terminal beyond security. Meeting parties will be restricted to areas outside security checkpoints. Have your luggage receipts available when retrieving luggage for verification.
